the bronx - what about us?
the movement 2018
The Bronx – What About Us? Movement was initiated in 2017 with 20 students from Pelham Prep Academy High School in which they published a video entitled, “Dear Mr. President” which was featured on the news and in a local newspaper. The project concluded with a video release party and a trip to Washington D.C. This year, 24 students will be chosen to photograph parts of the Bronx and some will be selected to share their stories through photographs. Students will learn about the Bronx and some of its statistics. Some photographs will be printed, framed, and sold to raise money to send our students to Washington D.C. Other photographs will be made into a video that will be posted on YouTube and other social media. The goal is to send a message to our politicians and others, that our students in the Bronx have a voice, want to be heard, and are worth investing in. All 24 students will receive a “The Bronx – What About Us?” black shirt. The photos and video will be shared over social media and may obtain news coverage. The project will culminate with a trip and tour of Washington D.C. A fundraiser will be launched to raise funds for the trip. We really hope to make an impact with this project and with your help, we CAN!
1. We're from the BRONX, but we can go anywhere in life.
2. We're from the BRONX, but we choose to live with an elevated mindset.
3. We're from the BRONX, but we choose to live un-caged and un-enslaved.
4. We're from the BRONX, but we will flourish like a rose that grows from concrete.

Our Amazing Students
The Bronx - What About Us? Project highlights the stories of 4 high school students representing grades 9 - 12, born and raised in the Bronx. Students shared their pieces that paint a personal picture of their lives growing up in the Bronx and some of their obstacles, their achievements, and their concerns about the state of education in the nation, state, city, and the Bronx. The goal is to send a direct message to our president and politicians that our students in the Bronx have a voice, want to be heard, and are worth investing in.
